On November 27, the China Tourism Academy rolled out the 2024 China Nighttime Economy Development Report, which analyzes night tourism through three key perspectives: the ongoing transition of demand growth, the supply side's active adaptations and structural optimization, and the problem-focused strategic routes. The report forecasts that the appetite for night tourism will keep growing, and the total money spent on domestic night tourism in 2024 will reach 1.91 trillion yuan, up 21.7% from the previous year.
The report points out that to keep up with the changing demand for night tourism, the supply side has responded positively and optimized its structure. Specific measures include the "Five Basic Rules" for the nighttime economy: scenic spots, cultural and museum venues and public transport run longer hours; the supply of night products is increased and incentive and subsidy mechanisms are set up; night consumption vouchers are used to guide consumption and stimulate the economy; night markets, outdoor stalls and store decorations are standardized under prudent and inclusive supervision; and cities strengthen the management of safety and hygiene at night.
According to the report, we should seek strategic paths by focusing on existing problems. We need to follow the changing trend of people's night leisure needs and transform the night supply from scattered point aggregation to a connected network distribution. We should rely on forward-looking cultural guidance to innovate industries, improve the connection between day and night services and make them more attractive. We must solve the problem of regional imbalance and explore new market areas, pay more attention to creating night tourism products in tourist source areas and surrounding regions, and not ignore the demand for night tourism in the sinking markets. Moreover, we should make urban strategic plans, build a product system, a professional promotion system, professional operation organizations, a stable data monitoring system and a dynamic evaluation mechanism to promote the sustainable and high-quality development of the night tourism industry.
